I am Mrs. Deon Mitchell, the proud Principal of Christopher Avenue Community School, P.S. 401. Located in Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York, we are committed to providing a supportive environment where students thrive academically, socially, and personally.
Our mission is to create a culturally inclusive learning environment where all children, regardless of their background, can realize their dreams. We create a safe and welcoming space for our students and their families to celebrate their uniqueness and diversity. We believe in the power of collaboration, partnerships with parents, and community groups to enhance the educational experience.
Christopher Avenue Community School offers rigorous academic programs to equip our scholars to compete within our global society. Our curriculum fosters independent thinkers and problem solvers. Christopher Avenue Community School is one of two bilingual schools in our district. Using the Estrellita curriculum and programs, newcomers who want to learn English or English speakers who want to learn Spanish can do so. In addition to our core subjects, we have an excellent STEM program that includes Hydroponics, Maker Space lab, 3D Printing, and Coding. Our scholars also toddle between visual and performance art and are given the opportunity to showcase their work at least twice each year. Students are exposed to various extracurricular activities during our extended day program, including basketball, stepping, dance, and chess.
Within our school community, we foster the following guiding principles:
